Candidate FAQs

Questions candidates ask us most.

Straightforward answers about working with Assiduous Staffing, what to expect from the process, and the roles we do (and don't) recruit.

Getting Started 7 questions
Is it free for candidates to use Assiduous Staffing?

Yes, always. We're paid by the law firms and businesses we place you with, never by candidates. Talking to us, registering your interest and being represented by us costs you nothing.

What do you specialise in?

Legal support and business operations recruitment: Legal Secretaries, Executive and Personal Assistants, Practice and Office Managers, Legal Operations, Billing Coordinators, Conveyancers and related roles. That's where our depth, experience and networks sit.

Do you recruit lawyers?

No, but we can refer you to professionals who can. Our specialisation is legal support and business operations, not fee-earning legal roles, and we're upfront about that rather than trying to be a generalist agency.

What level of roles do you recruit?

Across the full breadth of legal support, from front-of-house and administrative roles through to practice leadership and operations. If a role helps keep a law firm or in-house legal team running, there's a good chance it's within our specialisation.

Do you recruit permanent, contract and temporary roles?

All three. What's right largely depends on your circumstances, availability and your own objectives.

Can I register if there isn't a specific role for me?

Absolutely. Not every introduction begins with a live vacancy. Uploading your CV helps us understand your background, career goals and what might make your next move worthwhile, so we can contact you when the right opportunity arises.

Where are your roles based?

Most of our opportunities are across Sydney. We do also support clients with a national presence and may recruit for roles in other states when required.

Confidentiality & Trust 3 questions
Will my current employer find out I'm looking?

No. We know how sensitive a job search can be, especially in a tight-knit market like Sydney legal support. Everything you tell us stays between us. Discretion isn't a nice-to-have here; it's the baseline.

Will you send my CV anywhere without asking me first?

Never. No agency should be sending your details to an employer without your specific knowledge and consent. If a recruiter ever tells you they've already put you forward for a role you didn't know about, that's a red flag, not a win.

Will you contact my referees without asking me?

No. We'll discuss references with you first and will never contact a current employer or referee without your knowledge and permission. Reference checks are normally completed toward the end of a process, once there's genuine interest from both sides.

The Process 7 questions
What happens after I register or upload my CV?

We look at your background against current and upcoming roles and, if there's a genuine fit, we reach out for a real conversation, not an automated screening process. If it's not quite right this time, we'll keep you in mind for what's coming.

Do you advertise every role you're recruiting for?

No. Some of our best opportunities never make it to a job board. They may be confidential, newly opened, or run through our own network. Registering with us means we can consider you for roles you'd otherwise never see.

Should I still apply if I don't tick every box?

If you're applying to a role we've advertised, you should be reasonably confident you meet the key criteria. We want it to be a genuine match, not a stretch. If it's not quite there for a live role, reach out directly and submit your resume so we can keep you in mind as the right opportunity comes up.

Will I get feedback after an interview?

We aim to pass on feedback quickly and openly, whether it's positive or not. Client feedback is sometimes slower than we'd like, but we promise you won't be left wondering what happened.

How often will I actually hear from you?

If we're actively working through a live process together, expect to hear from us regularly. Outside of that, we're only ever a phone call away. Our attention is naturally prioritised toward roles we're actively recruiting for, so don't read anything into a quiet week. Reach out any time and we'll get back to you.

Can I talk to you even if I'm not ready to move?

Absolutely. There's no expectation that a conversation has to lead to an application. We're just as happy to get to know you now and reconnect when the timing is right.

Will I need to meet you?

Yes. Initial conversations can absolutely start over the phone, but once we're working together on a live opportunity, we'll need to meet properly. Wherever possible, that means face-to-face; otherwise, we'll connect over video before representing you to a client.

Your Career & Market Value 4 questions
Can you help me understand my market value?

We'll give you an honest view of where your experience sits in the current Sydney legal support market and what a realistic salary range looks like for your next move.

Will you help me prepare for interviews?

Yes, properly, not generic tips. In most cases we know the firm and the interviewers, so we can give you real insight into navigating that specific process.

Will you help me negotiate an offer?

Yes. We'll help you understand the full offer, talk through any concerns, and manage the conversation with the firm so both sides land on an outcome that's clear, fair and sustainable.

What actually makes Assiduous different?

10+ years of specialist legal support recruitment experience, direct access to founder Claire Booth throughout your search, and a boutique model built around genuine relationships rather than volume.

Working With Other Recruiters 2 questions
Can I work with other legal support recruiters at the same time?

Of course, it's your search, and you should manage it in the way that works best for you. When speaking with multiple recruiters, it's worth keeping track of which opportunities have been discussed and where you've agreed to be represented, to avoid duplicate introductions or confusion with potential employers.

Can you introduce me to other specialist recruiters if my background sits outside legal support?

Where we can, yes. Legal support and business operations is where our depth sits, but if your background points elsewhere, we're happy to point you in a sensible direction rather than trying to force a fit that isn't there.
